Gillian Overland is the principal and managing attorney of Overland Law & Mediation Firm.  She provides thoughtful counseling and personalized legal services to individuals, families, and businesses in the areas of wills and trusts, insurance law (including securing in-network health insurance coverage for out-of-network providers and contesting bad faith denials), employment law (including non-competes, severance agreements, and employee handbooks) and acting as a mediator to help resolve both business and family law disputes. Ms, Overland has the knowledge, skills and track record necessary to reliably achieve positive results for her clients. 

 Before transitioning to a more transactional-based practice, Ms. Overland spent the first twenty years of her legal career as a civil litigator in both state and federal court.  She successfully represented a broad range of clients, including small to large corporations, family businesses, and individuals in all phases of complex commercial litigation matters, from inception, through discovery, trial, post-judgment proceedings, and appeals.  She handled a multitude of legal matters involving complex commercial and contract issues, intellectual property, shareholders’ disputes, business torts, closely held corporation disputes, employment disputes, real estate matters, defamation, divorce, custody, child support, and alimony.

The legal profession’s most prestigious legal directory, Martindale-Hubbell, has awarded Ms. Overland its “AV” rating, the highest rating available to any individual attorney. This rating reflects the respect she has received from the bench, colleagues, and adversaries in the field of civil litigation. Ms. Overland has also been recognized as a “Rising Star” in 2013 and a “Super Lawyer” since 2015 by the legal directory published annually by Super Lawyers, which is a listing of top-rated attorneys in America.

 A graduate of McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (1998) and Boston College Law School with a Juris Doctorate (2001), Ms. Overland is a native of Montreal, Canada who is proficient in French and Hebrew. Ms. Overland is admitted to practice law in the states of New York, California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, as well as in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Eastern, and Northern Districts of New York. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the California State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.

 In her personal time, Gillian enjoys reading, yoga, hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family.
